A Series of Thoughts on the Power of the Mind, Part 3

“Our life is the creation of our mind.”

–Buddha

To close out this series, I am using the words of others to point out truisms–about the power of the mind–that have spanned all time. Look back to Part 1 and review the psychological laws. My hope is that you become aware of what you are attracting to yourself and that you use that awareness to improve your situation.

Through the power of your mind.

The Law of Attraction is a universal law that says all your thoughts, positive and negative, vibrate at a certain frequency and like attracts like.  In other words, you get what you ask for – the frequency of your thoughts attract things to your life vibrating at the same frequency.  This happens whether you are conscious of it or not.

–Life-changing-mind-power.com

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear,  do not sit home and think about it. Get out and get busy.”

–Dale Carnegie

“If you change your thoughts, words, actions, and your attitudes, your mind will update its rules according to the data it has gathered.”

–Susan Gray, author of the book Turn Your Thoughts into Money

Watch your thoughts; they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

The laws of psychology teach, if you want to change your world, change your mind set.

Quotation for 12-22-2012

Philosopher and software developer Clif High says:

In all experimentation, as with life, which is THE Grand Experiment after all, two rules apply: first, that all things are difficult in the beginning, thus most of your mistakes are made early in any process; and second, Stupidity Can Hurt.

So watch out in the early stages of any new activity, when we mostly operate at the stupid level.

Celebrating the Skill of a Writer: A Quotation

From Lord Dunsany’s The King of Elfland’s Daughter:

“And little he knew of the things that ink may do, how it can mark a dead man’s thoughts for the wonder of later years, and tell of happenings that are gone clean away, and be a voice for us out of the dark of time, and save many a fragile thing from the pounding of heavy ages; or carry to us, over the rolling centuries, even a song from lips long dead on forgotten hills.”

Quote from Television Character House

One of the TV shows I enjoy watching is “House,” the drama about a drug addicted, dysfunctional physician with a brilliant diagnostic talent. House is a bad boy. He’s a genius that has a hard time making or being a friend. He has a biting sarcasm and a frustrated libido. Sound like someone you might like?

Frankly, I haven’t analyzed House’s appeal to me, but I get a kick out of watching what he will say or do next. (I admit I prefer the older episodes where his character is out of control and has the star-crossed hots for his female boss, Dr. Lisa Cuddy.) The following quote is an exchange between House and his friend, Dr. James Wilson:

“Are you happy?

“No, but I’m right.”

This One Goes on the Refrigerator

I love the sentiment of this quote. It’s nice to believe that karma rewards doing good things. The quote comes from the 34-year-old president of Cinnabon, Kat Cole:

When you do the right things for the right reasons, it always pays you back.

The Right Quote

A lot of space is devoted to quotations on this blog. If the blog is a writer’s blog, why quotes? Gayle King, co-anchor of CBS This Morning and editor-at-large at O said it best:

The right quote can change your mood and change your mind.

— Gayle King

For writers, it is often the mood or state of mind that makes a difference in output. Discipline also plays a role. Even so, after I have disciplined myself to sit at my writing table, writing originates inside my head. The inner mechanisms sometimes require a lubricant to get things moving. A quotation sometimes serves that purpose.
